Pre-Delivery and Vehicle Safety Inspection Checklist

Purpose. Technicians and licensed vehicle testers use this checklist to record the condition of a vehicle before delivery, at a roadworthy inspection or during a safety check requested by a customer.
1.When to use this checklist
Complete this checklist for every new and used vehicle before delivery, for every certificate of roadworthiness inspection and whenever a customer books a safety check. The checklist is attached to the repair order and retained with it.
2.Inspection standard
Inspect each item against the manufacturer specification and the Victorian roadworthiness inspection standard. Record measured values for tyre tread depth, brake pad thickness and disc thickness rather than a tick alone. Mark any item that fails as a defect and describe it.
3.Road test
A road test of at least five kilometres is required, covering braking, steering pull, noise, gear selection and warning lamps. Record the odometer before and after the test.
4.Defects and quoting
Defects found must be listed on the repair order and quoted by the service advisor. The vehicle must not be delivered or a certificate issued until each safety defect is rectified and rechecked.
5.Sign off
The inspector signs and dates the checklist. For roadworthy inspections the licensed vehicle tester's name must be recorded. Results must not be altered after sign off; corrections are made by a new inspection.
